Long regarded as New Zealand's premier blue water racing club, the publication of the Coastal Cruising Handbook's first edition in 1972 validated the club's claim to be New Zealand's premier cruising club too.
The first edition sold out within nine months and a reprint was exhausted within the following year. The first edition covered the coast from Bay of Islands to Tauranga. Later editions saw the scope of the book expanded to cover from Three Kings Islands to Cape Kidnappers.
Subsequent years have seen other cruising guides appear covering other regions of New Zealand, but we take pride in having been the first club to recognise and respond to the need for such publications in this country.
The Club's centennial in 1995 provided the incentive to revise, update and expand volume seven, again to meet with the changing needs of our sport. The current tenth edition includes details of the marinas currently functioning within the area covered by this book.
